ACCORDING to information, during the World Expo, the number of visitors choosing to tour the Expo by water routes has greatly exceeded expectations. Based on the data gathered by the Shanghai World Expo Water Traffic Operations Center, the number of visitors opting to use water routes to enter and exit the Expo Park and the Expo areas accounted for 35% of the total number of Expo visitors.
The evening sightseeing water routes of the World Expo consist of those inside and outside the Expo Park. The route within the Expo Park is the golden tour route of the Huangpu River, as on the way, visitors can view the Chinese Pavilion, World Expo Culture Centre, World Expo Axis, Sun Valley, Bao Steel Big Stage, Saudi Pavilion, Japan Pavilion and a large music fountain, etc. In addition, viewers can also see the Oil Pavilion in the Puxi Park, China Shipbuilding Museum, General Motors Pavilion, Information and Communication Pavilion and so on.
How to propelling the post-Expo River Tourism to a higher level represents a key focus of the comprehensive development of both sides of the Huangpu River. Mr. Dao Shuming, Director of Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration said that as one of the important part of Shanghai`s overall tourism development, the entire Huangpu River area should get a comprehensive upgrade in terms of both the facilities and functionalities after the World Expo. The concerned Department has mapped out a preliminary blueprint: vertically, the layout is characterized by "One River and Three Belts" while horizontally, it is that of "Ten Sights and Eight Gardens". The sweeping green area consists of a continuous riverside green stretch and a green belt introduced from the hinterland. By then, sightseeing on the Huangpu River promises an even exhilarating experience thanks to the vastly improved scenery.
