Photo Exhibition Looks at Silk Road

A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibit on the Silk Road started last night at the EU Pavilion.
The photos were taken by Greece native Dr Simoni Zafeiropoulou.
She said the theme of the exhibition resonates well with the Expo`s core messages of uniting people through trade and culture.
She traveled along the Silk Road with her 9-year-old daughter Katia. The photographer believes that Greece and China have historically formed the two poles of the famous trade route.
The Silk Road connected China and Europe for more than 20 centuries and was a way to trade products and exchange knowledge in ancient times.
Part of her trip took place right after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She retraced the Silk Road across China with stops in Xi`an, Lanzhou, Jiayuguan, Dunhuang, the desert of Taklamakan, Xinjiang and the mountains of Pamir.
