OMAN celebrates its National Pavilion Day today.
Exploring the theme "Evolving Journey," the 2,000-square-meter pavilion combines the blue-and-gold prow of a traditional Omani sailing ship with a white fort.
At the rear is the distinctive round tower of Oman`s old capital, Nizwa. In front, the elegant tower of Sohar, a port city once known as "The Gateway to China," welcomes visitors.
Oman lies on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula and the pavilion combines Arabian features and modern styles. The pavilion in Zone A exhibits old Omani towns, port cities and cities in the desert and mountains.
The exhibition traces the country`s progress, capturing its beauty, traditions and culture as well as geographical diversity.
It showcases initiatives that are making Oman`s cities more attractive to residents, tourists and foreign investors.
The interior is designed to take visitors on a journey through the country, including its desert interior, grand mountain ranges, sea coast with rich marine life and the sub-tropical diversity of the southern region of Dhofar.
The second section of the pavilion, titled "1001 Arabian Nights," features the shipping routes of Sinbad the Sailor. Visitors can "travel" from the old port city of Sohar, to Nizwa and Muscat, arriving in the Blue City terminal, which will be completed by 2020.
Today, with its environmental preservation and outlook, modern Oman is emerging as a travel destination. The country`s emphasis on disciplined, sustainable development echoes the philosophy of Oman`s ancient civilizations, who understood how to live in harmony with nature.
