A FAMILY home featuring intelligent electrical appliances connected via the Internet of Things and controlled by cell phones or computers was unveiled at the World Trade Center Pavilion at the World Expo today.
Appliances featured include a refrigerator that can check the shelf life of food, a television that can control lighting and curtains, an air-conditioner that can sound an alarm in case of burglary and a washing machine that identifies appropriate detergent and cycles as it scans clothing material.
Other Expo pavilions adopting the Internet of Things include Finland, Jiangsu Province and Cisco.
Devices are connected to the Internet through radio frequency identification chips, creating the third generation of the information industry since the introduction of computers and the Internet.
The Internet of Things is regarded as the next trillion-dollar information industry sector.
A conference on the Internet of Things will be held in Shanghai on June 22 to discuss the future of the industry and its commercial model and use.
