PASSENGERS on high-speed trains between Shanghai and Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, might be able to use transport cards to pay the fare.
The high-speed route, scheduled to start operations on July 1, is undergoing test runs.
The line has a terminal at Shanghai`s newly opened Hongqiao Transport Hub.
The line is expected to halve traveling time between the two cities, about 300 kilometers apart, to about an hour.
After the line opens, there will be about 200 train services between the cities each day - one every five minutes during peak hours.
Separately, construction has begun in Songjiang District on major support facilities, including a bus hub and railway station square, for the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway scheduled to start services on October 1.
