A WATERFRONT park neighboring the World Expo site in downtown Luwan District opened to the public yesterday.
The green area is in the heart of a high-end riverside central business district which is expected to be completed in 2015.
The project is being built on the former site of dilapidated buildings, old wharfs and factories, including the Jiangnan Shipyard.
Nanyuan, a park dating back about 90 years, is now eight times bigger along the Huangpu River.
The new green area adopts many modern technologies with solar energy, a rain irrigation system and a green parking lot.
Some remains of an old wharf and the former industrial sites have been restored as a tourist attraction.
