ABOUT 3,000 breeds of flowers will greet visitors to the annual Shanghai Flower Exhibition which opens tomorrow at the Shanghai Botanical Garden.
Unusually cold weather in March has delayed many spring flowers, so sakura and peach blossom are due to bloom in the garden in early April, officials said today.
Peonies and moth orchids will be major drawcards, with new and traditional breeds of peony on show from Luoyang in Henan Province.
More than 30 breeds of moth orchid from Taiwan will be on show in an indoor display.
Besides, visitors will be able to see the national trees or flowers of the countries taking part in World Expo, such as the clover, the national flower of Ireland, and daisy, the national flower of Italy. The exhibition also highlights different gardening styles from various countries.
The exhibition will run through May 10. This is the fourth flower exhibition in Shanghai. Over the past three years, the exhibition drew more than 200,000 visitors every year, said the garden.
