Promotion activity held to boost tourism in Urumqi

A tourism promotion activity under the theme "Xinjiang People Tour Xinjiang" was held at the Tianchi Lake on Saturday to offset the negative impact of the July 5 riot in the regional capital Urumqi on the region's tourism industry. Xinjiang received 9.85 million tourists in the first half of 2009, 12.6 percent more than the same period of 2008, earning 9.341 billion RMB yuan (1.368 billion U.S. dollars), 20.5 percent higher.
