Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has signed a new contract with the Premier League club, which will see him steering at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2014, the club announced on Friday.
Bruce, 50, joined Sunderland in June 2009. He guided his side to seventh in the Premier League this season as the club aims for a top half finish for the first time in ten years.
"I'm delighted to have signed a new contract," said the former Manchester United defender. "It's a magnificent club from top to bottom, with wonderful support and everything is in place here for a manager. "
Previously, Bruce had managed Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic, Crystal Palace and Birmingham City,
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn believed that Brue was the right man to bring stability to the club. "In only 18 months he has reshaped our squad beyond recognition, bringing in some fantastically talented players, many of whom are young and desperate to achieve and improve. "
Sunderland will visit Everton on Saturday before meet Arsenal at Emirates on next weekend.
