Facebook announced Wednesday that it will introduce video call to its social networking service through cooperation with Skype.

The cooperation is a step taken by Facebook to deepen its cooperation with Microsoft Corp, which is in the process of buying Skype for $8.5 billion, and is also a move to cement its leadership.

The video communication tool to be added is called Video Calling which is described by Facebook's CEO Mark Zukerberg as "super ausome"

Zukerberg also hinted at a lot more interesting applications to be rolled out over the coming months and years.

Facebook now has 750 million users, Zukerberg said. The new offering, rolling out from on Wednesday, would give a boot to Skype, which currently has about 145 million regular users.

The new function is also considered as a counter-attack against Google Inc, which last week turned up the competitive heat by introducing a social networking service dubbed Google+.

Skype, founded in 2003, enables people to make phone calls and video calls on the Internet for free and has also developed premium services.
