HEBEI'S FOREIGN TRADE UP NEARLY 40 PCT
North China's Hebei Province generated 20.97 billion U.S. dollars in foreign trade in the first five months of this year, an increase of 38.6 percent over the same period of last year, according to the local customs house.
The total included 10.8 billion U.S. dollars of exports, up 31.5 percent year-on-year, and 10.17 billion dollars of imports, up 47.1 percent.
The growth rate for exports slowed down by 10 percentage points over the year-earlier level, and that for imports was 8 percentage points lower.
From January to May, Hebei's trade with Australia amounted to 2.91 billion U.S. dollars, up 66.3 percent year-on-year, its trade with the European Union reached 3.87 billion dollars, up 26.2 percent, and trade with the United States hit 2.18 billion dollars, up 43.1 percent.
