The biggest bathing beach in Asia, No. 1 Bathing Beach is famed for soft sand, clean water and calm waves. It is situated on Huiquan Bay and sometimes referred to as Huiquan Bathing Beach.
No. 1 Bathing Beach is 580 meters long and 40 meters wide. It is surrounded by graceful scenery: mountains in three directions, luxuriant green trees and modern high-rise buildings alongside waterfront villas.
The facilities at No. 1 Bathing beach received large scale renovations in preparation for hosting the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. After the restoration, the beach s area was increased from 11,800 square meters to 24,000 square meters. Facility improvements included new dressing rooms and public buildings for restaurants, offices and washrooms. No. 1 Bathing Beach is now equipped to handle 200,000 tourists each day.
Qingdao also has eight other bathing beaches: No. 2 Bathing Beach at Shanghaiguan Road, No. 3 Bathing Beach at Sixth Taipingjiao Road, No. 6 Bathing Beach at Taiqiao Road, Shilaoren Bathing Beach at Haikou Road, Yaokou Bathing Beach and Baoyudao Bathing Beach in Laoshan District, and Golden Sand and Silver Sand Bathing Beaches in the Economic and Technical Development Zone. No. 1 Bathing Beach is reputed to be the best, while the more secluded No. 2 Bathing Beach is the only one that charges a fee.
