Id Kah MosqueThe meaning of the words Id Kah means a place of pray and celebration for festivals. The mosque is located in the central area of Kashgar city and is the biggest mosque in China. Actually, the Id Kah Mosque is composted of a group of ancient Islamic constructions with strong ethnic characteristics and religious features.

Id Kah Mosque was built in 1442 and was in a rather small size at the beginning. It was actually a cemetery originally and became the mosque that greets us today through several renovations and enlargements.

The mosque covers an area of 16,800 square meters and consists of many parts including the courtyard, the Hall of Prayer, the gate tower, a pond and other attached structures, with a history of over 500 years.

It is regarded as the sacred place for thousands of worshippers every day and is filled with crowds of Muslims on the square, the streets or the roads during religious festivals. Then, all the people will get together on the square in front of the mosque, singing and dancing to celebrate their festivals.
