British Wool Launch ‘Naturally Green’ at Surfaces 2010
British Wool will bring their ‘Naturally Green ‘ campaign to Surfaces 2010 backed by their recent environmental Life Cycle Analysis(LCA) report, giving scoured British Wool an internationally recognised standard of environmental credibility.
The British Wool Marketing Board (BWMB) invested in the twelve month study, which was completed by Leeds University - the centre of expertise for non-woven textile research in the UK and it has been done to the industry standard ISO 14040.
Analysing the wool from the sheep in the field to the end of the scouring process, the study determined that the impact of British Wool on the environment is measurably less than either nylon or polypropylene fibres and concludes that the sustainability of scoured British wool production is much better than that of polypropylene and nylon fibre productions.
Positioning British Wool as the ‘Planet Friendly fibre for Carpet’, the British Wool Marketing Board is appealing to manufacturers and retailers to consider wool as their first choice for carpet.
Tim Booth. Product Development Manager at the BWMB explained,“The ‘Green’ agenda is increasing rapidly and support for natural, sustainable products is growing too. Wool is now facing an important precipice as people are looking at it with fresh eyes and assessing how it can help them meet the scrutiny of their customers.
“British Wool, grown on sheep breeds that graze freely in the UK is a natural fibre which has the greenest of beginnings and is the most sustainable fibre available to carpet. Whilst the origin is clearly excellent, we still wanted to offer detail and data to the carpet industry and our LCA report does exactly that.”
British Wool can be found on stand 4731 with partners, Brintons and Axminster Carpets.
