Patra Silk, the UK’s leading mail order supplier of silk clothing, announced a 30% increase this week in sales of their thermal underwear, especially long sleeve silk vests and silk long johns.
The rush comes at a time of extremely heavy snowfall across the country. Overnight temperatures have been reported as low as -18 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Schools have closed, and people are being advised to stay indoors unless they must travel. The snow has downed power lines in Southern England, and many homes are without electricity.
Rita Patra, Managing Director of Patra Silk, says, “Silk vests and long johns are perfect for this kind of weather. Unlike wool or synthetic materials, the temperature regulating properties of silk stop you feeling clammy – and you can easily go from the freezing temperatures outside, to the warmth of a shop or office, without getting too hot and uncomfortable.”
“I think people are becoming more aware of silk thermals. Certainly skiers and trekkers wear them, and I think the rest of us are now buying them for conditions like this – walking to work, for children playing in the snow, and unfortunately, for people stuck in their homes without electricity!”
Patra was established in 1964 and this family-run independent mail-order firm offers natural luxurious fabrics, exclusive styles, exceptional quality, at amazingly affordable prices. As experts in silk clothing, they source and hand select fabrics with great care, ensuring that they only offer items of superior quality.
