The textile, clothing and footwear sector of Fiji is hoping to a have a better 2010, when compared to what it went through the whole of 2009, on back of the slowdown in major markets of the world, to which it exports.
Recounting the year gone by, the President of Textile Clothing and Footwear Council, Kalpesh Solanki said the sector faced multiple challenges in 2009 like slowdown in its main markets, wage increase, devaluation of its currency and rise in raw material prices.
He does not expect the challenges to cede, but hopes that the "Make it in Fiji" marketing campaign will help to bring back the glory of the TCF Fiji industry.
He added by saying that, meanwhile, TCF industry is also working towards increasing exports to over $150 million and generate employment for more than 6,000 people within the next three years with the $300,000 assistance provided by the Government.
