BASF has appointed Kurt Bock to succeed J rgen Hambrecht as chief executive and chairman of the company's board of executive directors. Martin Bruderm ller will become vice chairman. Both appointments take effect following BASF's annual meeting on May 6, 2011.

Kurt Bock is an entrepreneur with an extensive international experience," says Eggert Voscherau, chairman of the supervisory board of BASF SE. Bock's successor as CFO has not been named. Further appointments to the board will be made in early 2011, BASF says.

Bock joined BASF s finance division in 1985 and has been CFO and a member of the BASF board since 2003. He was named CEO of BASF s North America regional division in 2007 with oversight of BASF s activities in the region and BASF s catalysts division. Bock was named CW s 2010 Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Year last week.

Brudermu ller is currently responsible for BASF's performance polymers, polyurethanes and styrenics division as well as the Asia Pacific regional division. Bock and Brudermu ller were viewed as the leading candidates to succeed Hambrecht.
