May 24-KraussMaffei is set to target high pressure resin injection (RTM) systems at auto manufacturers of CFP parts after signing a sales deal with Germany-based Dieffenbacher.
Customers will now have a single source for all elements of turnkey systems, as well as a supplier that operates worldwide, said KraussMaffei.
These can be decisive advantages in an important market because high pressure RTM is set to play a key role in producing carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFP) parts for the auto industry, added the firm. Current market demand for components for electric and hybrid cars confirms this trend.
During production of fibre intermediates, vertical presses feature a lower mould element for gravity-assisted loading and draping of fabric in the mould. The mould is then filled with epoxy resin or polyurethane, which is cured.
KraussMaffei and Dieffenbacher says they will worth together to develop the process, and in particular shorten the curing time.
This is important because process time is a critical factor in productivity and return on investment, say the firms.
Dieffenbacher will specialise in hydraulic vertical presses and handling systems, while KraussMaffei will provide tools for post-mould processing and resin metering systems.
