May 11-Lucite International has been nominated for a MacRobert Award for its Alpha process that removes much of the toxic chemicals from production processes of acrylic plastic.
The awards, which were first presented in 1969, honour the winning organisation with a gold medal, and each of the individual nominees with a bronze medal. There is, in addition, a cash prize of 50,000.
The presentation of the award recognises the successful development of innovative ideas in engineering. It seeks to demonstrate the importance of engineering and the role of engineers and scientists in contributing to national prosperity and international prestige.
The MacRobert Award is one of the most prestigious awards an engineer can aspire to, said Professor Peter Ogrodnik, managing director, Intelligent Orthopaedics, MacRobert Award finalist 2007. Just taking part has taught us a lot, not only about the obvious things but about ourselves and how our engineering peers view us.
