BPF to hold seminar on the future of bio plastics

Write: Gregory [2011-05-20]
April 30-A seminar on 'The Future of Bio-based and Degradable Plastics: Markets and Applications' will be held at the BPF's London offices on Wednesday 2 June. The third in a series, the event takes place against a background of heightened interest in the materials but uncertainty as to their properties and potential.

Presentations will have a strong market focus with speakers from Solutions4Plastic and Valpak providing insights into the extent to which bioplastics and degradable plastics are actually used. The spotlight will fall on packaging, agricultural and medical markets with speakers from the Co-op, Smithers RAPRA and Wells Plastics providing the insights.

A close examination of the environmental benefits will also feature prominently with the sustainability of the feedstock supply being reviewed by the National Non- Food Crops Centre. Loughborough University's study on oxo-degradable plastics will also be presented. The end-of-life fate of both bio-based and degradable plastics will be addressed by EPI Europe and Novamont.

BPF public and industrial affairs director, Philip Law, said: The timing of this seminar is spot on. There are major issues to discuss and policy needs to be decided with urgency. If you want to access the key opinion-leaders in this sector they will be there.
