April 20 - PolyOne is joining forces with US-based chemical company Segetis to make bio-based plasticisers for certain petroleum and bio-based polymers.
Under the terms of the deal, Segetis will provide the technology and PolyOne the compounding techniques. The formulations are aimed at a variety of end-use markets, including electronics, consumer, healthcare and automotive.
Together, we will develop a unique performance profile for bio-based plasticisers that will enable us to create compounds with properties that are unobtainable today, said PolyOne spokesperson Marcel Dartee.
PolyOne also has an agreement with Archer Daniels Midland to produce bio-plasticisers for vinyl-related markets.
The announcement comes days after Dow Wire & Cable launched its new range of Ecolibrium plasticisers, made from nearly 100% renewable feedstocks.
