BOGOTA, April 19 -The Canadian oil exploration company Pacific Rubiales Monday informed the Colombian state-run oil company Ecopetrol of the discovery of oil reserves in Meta province in southeast Colombia with an estimated production of 30,000 barrels per day.

The Quifa Field, located in Meta's Gaitan Port, is under further exploration to verify if the potential production is even higher, the Colombian Mines and Energy Ministry said.

"It is a cooperation contract where Ecopetrol has 40 percent of the production. The estimated production will be 30,000 barrels daily, and the initial recoverable reserve is 280 million barrels," the ministry added.
Pacific Rubiales, which has been working for years in Colombia, also announced that tests are being carried out in Candelilla Field, located in the same zone, which could have a similar daily production.

"The Candelilla Field, located in Cabuyaro, Meta, has oil of very good quality. This field, which is producing 30,000 barrels of oil per day, is under contract between Canada's Petrominerales and the Colombian National Agency of Hydrocarbons (ANH)," the ministry said.

Pacific Rubiales is a Canadian-listed producer of oil and natural gas. The company is focused on resource exploitation primarily in the eastern tropical plains of Colombia. Its current daily net production is 52,582 barrels of oil. So far, the company has effectively participated in the exploitation of 32 blocks in Colombia and northern Peru.
