ISTANBUL, March 25 - The first flow of natural gas from the Nabucco pipeline project linking Europe to the Caspian Sea region will take place in 2014 as planned, Nabucco Gas Pipeline International said here Thursday.
Nabucco Director General Reinhard Mitschek confirmed in a press release that the construction of the natural gas pipeline will begin in 2011 and that the first flow of the gas will take place in 2014.
Mitschek underlined that there has been no change in the time table of the Nabucco Gas Pipeline Project, adding "The pipeline will be filled with natural gas step by step. We will reach a maximum capacity of 31 billion cubic meters per year as of 2018."
On March 4, Turkish Parliament approved a bill on a deal signed by Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Turkey to launch Nabucco pipeline project.
The project is considered a key to reduce Europe's energy dependence on Russia.
Under the law approved by the parliament, Nabucco pipeline will carry Caspian natural gas to Austria through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
The project is developed by the consortium of six companies. The final investment decision will be made at the end of 2010.
