Nikkei touches 4-month high as trading firms gain

TOKYO - Japan's Nikkei average hit a fresh four-month high on Tuesday, buoyed by shares of trading houses such as Mitsui & Co (8031.T) after prices of oil and other metals gained, but the index quickly swung back to negative territory.
The benchmark Nikkei .N225 was down 0.2 percent at 10,611.71, after rising as high as 10,683.12, its highest since August 31.
The broader Topix dipped 0.1 percent to 913.57.
