BRASILIA, Dec. 8 - Brazil's state-owned oil and gas giant Petrobras, the largest company in the country, will look for oil in deep waters of Uruguay, a company official said Tuesday.

A contract for this purpose will be signed later this week, said Jorge Zelada, director of the International Department of the company.

Zelada said Petrobras' activities in South America will continue as a priority.

"We are present in all countries of South America and our intention is to continue increasing their involvement," he said.

The director also mentioned projects that are being developed in Peru and Chile, and investments in Argentina.

Petrobras has presence in about 30 foreign countries. Its stocks are traded on major stock markets around the world.
