ABU DHABI, Oct. 27 - The 2009 Arab Oil and Gas Show, one of the leading networking platforms for the world's energy industry, opened Tuesday at the International Convention and Exhibition Center in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Saeed Al Tayer, head of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, inaugurated the annual exhibition, a technical event for engineers, technicians, professionals and procurement experts in the energy, automation and manufacturing sectors.

"The new technologies available will sustain this industry in the long run, and are critical for the development of this region's oil and gas industry," he said at the opening ceremony.

"Another division that is very important is the renewable energy, especially for the end user -- but this is a gradual process and will go step by step," Al Tayer added.

According to organizers, more than 50 Chinese companies participated in the exhibition.

The three-day show has achieved a 20 percent increase in international participation this year, with pre-registered visitors up by 32 percent, underscoring the growing global focus on various upstream business opportunities in the Middle East, organizers said.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, nearly 10 subsidiaries of Sinopec, one of the major petroleum companies in China, held a promotion conference to introduce their new products to UAE energy firms.
