HOUSTON, Sept 15 - Gasoline fell 24 cents per gallon in West Coast markets on Tuesday following restarts of refineries in California, traders said. Unleaded ethanol-blend CARBOB gasoline for September deilvery finished at 23 cents per gallon over the NYMEX October RBOB RBV9 gasoline contract. Prior to the finish, CARBOB traded at 29 cents, 28 cents, 26 cents and 25 cents over October NYMEX RBOB. CARBOB finished in a bid-offer spread on Monday at 42 cents/47 cents over. Two refineries in Los Angeles restarted units Monday and Tuesday after brief shutdowns due to mechanical malfunctions, the companies said. Also, a San Francisco-area refinery restarted its crude unit last week after a seven-week shutdown for an overhaul. September San Francisco Bay market CARBOB was priced between even to and 1 cent over L.A. October CARBOB in L.A. sold at 22.5 cents, 20 cents and 19 cents per gallon November NYMEX RBOB. Los Angeles September CARB diesel was at 4 cents/6 cents per gallon over October NYMEX heating oil, with trades done at 4.75 cents and 5 cents over. In the Bay market, CARB diesel was offered at 8 cents over October NYMEX heating oil. Ultra-low sulfur diesel in L.A. was offered at 5 cents over heating oil. September L.A. jet fuel was a half-cent stronger at 3 cents/4 cents over October heating oil, with a trade heard at 4 cents over. In the Portland, Oregon, market, unleaded gasoline was down 5 cents at an offer of 38 cents over NYMEX October RBOB. Portland diesel was down 4 cents at 26-cent offer premium on NYMEX heating oil.
