NEW YORK, Sept 1 - BP Plc (BP.L)(BP.N) is shutting an ultraformer at its 467,720 barrel-per-day refinery in Texas City, Texas, which could lead to flaring, according to a company filing Tuesday with state regulators.
The filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality cited an "air shutdown" event taking place between Sept. 1 and Sept. 10, and listed Ultraformer No. 4. The filing did not give further details about the nature of the shutdown.
"We are entering a period of routine maintenance at the refinery," Tom Mueller, a BP spokesman, told Reuters when asked about the nature of the work cited in the filing. He did not elaborate.
The ultraformer is a catalytic reformer that turns low-octane refining byproducts into high-octane blending components for gasoline.
BP officials could not be reached for comment.
