Norway shuts Kollsnes gas plant, 3 N. Sea fields

OSLO, May 25 - North Sea gas pipeline operator Gassco said on Monday the Kollsnes gas processing plant on the Norwegian coast has been shut for repairs until June 6, while StatoilHydro (STL.OL) said it shut three North Sea gas fields.

With daily processing capacity of up to 143 million standard cubic metres of gas and 69,000 barrels of natural gas liquids (NGL), Kollsnes is one of Norway's two main gas export plants supplying the European market.

"Kollsnes is shutting down now because of planned maintenance, which started today and will last for 12 days," Gassco spokeswoman Lisbet Kallevik said.

She said the stop would allow "planned valve work" at the plant, which was out for most of last week after a condensate leak last Tuesday, pushing up UK gas prices. The plant restarted on Friday, before again shutting down on Monday.

Norwegian oil and gas producer StatoilHydro said it has shut for repairs three fields that feed gas to Kollsnes -- Troll, Visund and Kvitebjoern. It declined to specify how long repairs would take.

"This is a long planned turnaround and shutdown," StatoilHydro spokesman Geir Gjervan said, adding the stoppage was included in the company's production guidance.

Troll is Norway's biggest field containing 60 percent of total gas reserves on the Norwegian shelf and it is dependent on Kollsnes. Visund and Kvitebjoern may be able to switch gas flows to another processing plant, Gjervan said.

Gassco is the operator of the Kollsnes plant near Bergen, while StatoilHydro is the facility's technical service provider.
