SAO PAULO, June 25 - Brazil's benchmark stock index jumped 3 percent in late afternoon trade on Thursday as rising metals and oil prices lifted shares of bellwether companies Petrobras and Vale.

The Bovespa index .BVSP of the Sao Paulo stock exchange jumped to 51,234.74 from 49,672.12 on Wednesday.

State-run energy company Petrobras (PETR4.SA) led the market higher, up 3.5 percent and tracking a 2.4 percent gain in crude oil in New York CLc1. Mining giant Vale (VALE5.SA) climbed 3 percent, also benefiting from higher copper and industrial metals prices.
