HOUSTON, May 21 - Shell Oil Co (RDSa.L) said on Thursday a compressor malfunction at its 155,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) San Francisco Bay-area refinery in Martinez, California, had been corrected and refinery operations were stable.

The malfunction occurred on Wednesday afternoon and was fixed by 5 p.m. PDT Wednesday (0000 Thursday GMT), Shell said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.

Trade sources said the compressor was on a coking unit, but Shell declined to say on which refinery unit the compressor was located.
