OSLO, Feb 5 - Norwegian StatoilHydro (STL.OL) said it had made a natural gas and condensate discovery about 10 kilometres from the Frigg field in the North Sea.
The well has proven recoverable volumes in the region of 6-19 million barrels of oil equivalent.
"It is gratifying that we have again proven hydrocarbons in these areas, where finds can quickly be brought on stream," StatoilHydro vice President Tom Dreyer said in a statement.
"We are now considering drilling a sidetrack well to delineate the extent of the find."
StatoilHydro is the operator and has 50 percent of the license. The other partners are Svenska Petroleum Exploration with 25 percent, Det norske oljeselskap (DETNOR.OL) with 15 percent and Dana Petroleum (DNX.L) at 10 percent.
Separately, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said that Canadian energy group Talisman Energy (TLM.TO) drilled a dry well in the North Sea near the Gyda platform.
