Qantas cuts fuel surcharges on oil price falls

Write: Maggie [2011-05-20]
MELBOURNE - Qantas Airways Ltd, Australia's top airline, said it would cut its fuel surcharges on international flights and cut domestic fares in response to recent falls in oil and jet fuel prices.

It said on Wednesday it would cut fuel surcharges by between 7 and 9.5 percent and cut domestic fares by 2-3 percent.

Executive general manager John Borghetti said at current oil prices, even after hedging and fuel saving steps, Qantas's fuel bill this year would still be A$1.3 billion ($930 million) higher than in the 2008 financial year.
