Environmental clearance for ONGC-Mangalore Petrochemicals' Aromatic Complex

Environmental clearance has been received for an Aromatic Complex, to be set up in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by ONGC-Mangalore Petrochemicals Ltd (a Special Purpose Vehicle of ONGC-MRPL). The licensor's selection for the Aromatics Complex has been completed and basic engineering and design work has commenced.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, a unit of ONGC also plans to ramp up crude capacity from 9.69 million mtpa to 15 mln mtpa by 2011, under the proposed implementation of its phase-III refinery projects. It would also increase distillate yield like petrol, diesel, LPG Naptha and others by about 10%. The project is likely to be completed by 2011 and operations would commence thereafter. Land acquisition work for the project was almost complete and 400 acres had already been acquired. Rehabilitation, resettlements and relocation of the project-affected was in progress.
