2 April 2008 Chemical firm BASF has joined forces with Leuna-Harze to offer new epoxy resin systems aimed at wind turbine blade production.

Leuna Harze, a leading manufacturer of epoxy resins in Europe, will supply BASF with resin raw materials.

BASF, meanwhile, will offer customised epoxy resin systems for fibre-reinforced composites aimed specifically at the production of rotor blades for wind turbines.

Dr Gregor Saun, who heads the epoxy system development and marketing unit, recently set up by BASF s operating division intermediates, said: Our cooperation with Leuna-Harze is a major element in our strategy to safeguard the long-term supply of raw materials for our customers.

Klaus Paur, principal shareholder of Leuna-Harze, said the new plants represented an investment of (euro)25m.

The cooperation with BASF that we have developed for years gives us another opportunity to establish our products in a fast-expanding business segment.
