Manila--Asian coal buyers and shipping brokers interviewed by Platts said they can continue to take deliveries of coal from China despite an official ban.
An Asian coal buyer said one of its Chinese suppliers loaded a panamax vessel
with coal and sailed away from a northern Chinese port after the Spring
Festival celebrations in China.
A shipping broker said that they received notice from a charterer February 19
seeking a panamax vessel that can load coal in northern China between the end
of February and early March to make a delivery to Turkey.
This broker also said February 19 that Noble Chartering is in the market for a
vessel that can load coal and coke in northern China from February 25 to
February 29 for delivery in the Port of Aden in Yemen.
Sources in Japan and South Korea said a major Chinese coal exporter has
pledged to continue delivering coal to its Japanese customers although less
tonnage than what has been contracted.
