NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Crude-oil futures tumbled more than 2 dollars Wednesday to close below 87 dollars a barrel, as continuing fears that an economic recession will depress demand for oil prompted traders to sell energy futures.
Crude oil for March delivery closed down 2.22 dollars, or 2.5 percent, at 86.99 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Earlier it fell to an intraday low of 86.65 dollars. Crude is now 13 percent below its highest level of 100.09 dollars hit earlier this year.
