Crude oil jumps more than 2 dollars after inventories data

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Crude-oil futures rose more than 2 dollars, or nearly 3 percent, Thursday after government data showed U.S. crude inventories increased by 2.3 million barrels last week.
Crude for March delivery closed up 2.42 dollars, or 2.8 percent, to 89.41 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The benchmark crude contract earlier rose to an intraday high of 89.52 dollars a barrel.
