Indonesia to import oil from Libya

JAKARTA, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will import 150,000 barrels of crude oil daily from Libya for 20 years to meet the demand from an oil refinery plant in the Banten province, Indonesian Minister of Energy Purnomo Yusgiantoro said here.

The minister said that as the only OPEC member country in the Asia-Pacific region, Indonesia will cooperate with Iran to build are finery plant in Banten province, with production capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.

"They (Iran) could only supply 150,000 barrels per day, the rest of the supply we get from Libya," Purnomo who was quoted by Metro TV as saying on Thursday.

The Indonesian stated-owned oil and gas company Pertamina and the National Iranian Oil Company will jointly build the refinery, he said.

Indonesia attempted to boost crude oil output as the country has failed to find new oilfields fast enough.

The country's aging wells and lack of investment in the energy sector have turned the country to become a net crude oil importer, although it is still a net energy exporter thanks to a large amount of supplies of natural gas and coal.
