Sinopec Corp has shuttered the 80,000 bpd Fujian oil refinery for 40 days of planned maintenance, to start work on connecting the plant with a new multi-billion-dollar complex jointly funded by Exxon Mobil and Saudi Aramco. The shutdown is the first in three years for the refinery and will be used to start connecting pipelines to an expanded complex at the same site, slated to add a 160,000 bpd refinery and a petrochemical complex at a total cost of US$5 billion, by Q4-08.
The shutdown is expected to last through the end of January- hence theer will be no oil production from the plant for January.
