EU to reimpose PET duties against India

10 December 2007 - The European Commission has requested the reimposition of anti-dumping duties on exports into the European Union (EU) of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film manufactured within India.
EU ministers are expected to formally approve the plan, which would see duties imposed in 2001, being renewed at the same levels without such authorisation they would lapse.

The decision will mean that 17.3% duties are reimposed on Indian PET film, with certain named companies being charged variable rates (up to 18%) or being exempted altogether.

Those paying no duties would be Flex Industries, of Noida; Jindal Poly Films, of New Delhi; and the Polyplex Corporation, of Uttar Pradesh; while Ester Industries, of New Delhi, would pay 17.3%; Garware Polyester, of Mumbai, 6.8%; MTZ Polyfilms 18%; and SRF, of New Delhi, 3.5%.

The EU s Official Journal stated: Given the relative levels of prices, the spare capacities there is a likelihood of a continuation of dumping should anti-dumping measures in force be lifted.
