Two million tons of propionic acid have been produced at BASF s Ludwigshafen Verbund site over the past 55 years. The versatile acid is a classic product in the company s globally unparalleled portfolio of about 600 intermediates. In view of the high demand for the multifaceted chemical, BASF announced in August that it is planning to expand its capacities in Ludwigshafen and Nanjing.
