India Jaiprakash Associates to invest INR 45 billion in cement project

Jaypee Group firm Jaiprakash Associates Limited said that it will invest INR 45 billion to take its cement manufacturing capacity from 20 million tonnes per annum to 33 million tonnes per annum by 2012.

The company's current capacity is 15 million tonnes per annum that will go up to 20 million tonnes per annum in the next 2 to 3 months for which most of the investments have been made.

Mr Rahul Kumar CFO of Jaiprakash Associates said that "We currently have a capacity of 15 million tonnes per annum and the total capacity will reach from 20 million tonnes per annum in March 2010 to 33 million tonnes per annum by March 2012 at a cost of INR 45 billion. Part of the INR 45 billion investment has already been made to augment the capacity."

It may be noted that the company's first JV cement plant with Steel Authority of India Limited will be commissioned by March 2010 with a capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per annum. Its second JV plant with the steel major would be operational by July 2011 in Bokaro in Jharkhand with capacity of 2.1 million tonnes per annum. The other cement plants by the company are coming up in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
