2010 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Presentation Ceremony Held in Beijing; AE Member Zhang Jinqiu Won    Science and Technology Achievement Award

The 2010 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Presentation Ceremony was held at Bei-jing's Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on October 20. Madame Liu Yandong, Member of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also State Councilor, Mr. Lu Yongxiang Vice Chairman of NPC (National People s Congress) Standing Committee, also CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences) President, Mr.

Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of CPPCC, also China s Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of CPPCC, together with Mr. Zhou Ji, President of CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering) and other state lead-ers attended the ceremony and presented awards to the winners.

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation awarded a total of 51 experts in 2010, among whom one received Science and Technology Achieve-ment Award , thirty-three won Science and Technology Progress Award , and another se-venteen won Science and Technology Innova-tion Award . CAE Member Zhang Jinqiu, chief architect working with China Northwest Design Institute, who was nominated by CAE, was the "Science and Technology Achievement Award" winner. Besides, Mr. Fan Daiming, Vice President of CAE, and other CAE Mem-bers (a total of ten) won "Progress Award" and "Innovation Award" respectively.

Science and Technology Achievement Award winner: Zhang Jinqiu (female)

Science and Technology Progress Award winners: Zhao Yijun, Li Dadong, Guan Huashi, Li Yu, Fan Shangda, Fan Daiming, Yu Quan, Fan Lichu

Science and Technology Innovation Award winners: Chen Kefu, Kang Yuzhu

Achievement Award winner Zhang Jin-qiu is an exceptional scientist, architect and de-signer in architectural engineering field in China, who is also the very first female scientist who as been conferred Science and Technology Achievement Award by Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. Zhang insisted on the integration of science and art as well as the combination of modern and traditional elements when making architectural creations all through the years in western part of China, thus produced a series of remarkable works such as the Museum of Shaanxi History, Three Tang (Dynasty) Project , Wise People Village, Shaanxi Provin-cial Library, Shaanxi Provincial Art Gallery, Worship Hall of Memorial Mausoleum of Le-gendary Emperor Huangdi, Tang Paradise (Lo-tus Palace of Tang Dynasty) and Yan'an Revo-lutionary Memorial Hall.

All of these master-pieces carry forward the national spirits of Chinese people, demonstrate characteristics of different times, and represent a perfect combi-nation of scientific & technological innovation and artistic creation, which undoubtedly set a great example for the architecture industry in China in the new era, to carry out excellent tra-ditional and national culture, as well as estab-lish a system for independent innovation.

Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is a social welfare foundation, incorporated in Hong Kong on March 30, 1994, funded by Hong Kong patriotic financial entrepreneurs Ho Sin Hang, Leung Kau Kui, Ho Tim and Lee Quo Wei, whose purpose is to reward Chinese scientific and technological personnel who have made outstanding achievements and significant progress, and are good at innovation as well, so as to promote the development of science and technology in China.

That was also the very first time social forces join hands in establishing a science and technology award. During the past sixteen years after its establishment, the Foundation has rewarded a total of 901 scien-tific and technological personnel who have made exceptional contributions to the devel-opment of science and technology in China, which has played essential roles in promoting the scientific spirit in the whole society and encouraging the great number of scientific and technological personnel to strive to make more innovation, breakthroughs and achievements in their work, so as to help speed up the scientific and technological progress in China.
