The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released its Global Urban Competitiveness Report (2009-2010) in Nanjing, Jiangsu province on Friday.
The report assesses and ranks competitiveness of 500 cities around the world. New York leads in terms of comprehensive competitiveness, followed by London and Tokyo.
Three Chinese cities, Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong, made it into the top 50.
Beijing ranks 59th of the 500 cities, near the medium level in terms of comprehensive competitiveness, said the report.
The report says it collected data on green GDP, green GDP per capita, economic growth rate, number of internationally recognized patent applications and an index of multinational corporations
The top 10 cities in terms of global urban comprehensive competitiveness are New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Singapore, Seoul, and Hong Kong.
