Leung earned 28.59 million yuan in pre-tax salary in 2009, surpassing Frank Newman, chairman of Shenzhen Development Bank, 2008 s highest paid, with 15.98 million yuan in annual compensation. Newman ranked second with 17.41 million yuan this year.
All of the 10 highest paid executives are from the finance and real estate sectors, with Ping An Insurance claiming three spots.
It came as a surprise that Xu Minjie, deputy general manager of China COSCO, which was one of the worst performing companies, earned 5.19 million yuan and ranked among the top 20 best paid.
The Chinese mainland-listed companies had all released their annual reports by April 30.
