Macao's Feb gaming revenues soar 69%

MACAO: Macao's gaming revenues reached 13.5 billion patacas ($1.69 billion) in February this year, an increase of about 69 percent over the same period of last year, the Macao Post Daily reported on Tuesday, quoting unnamed sources.

Regarding market share, SJM, owned by local gaming magnate Stanley Ho, retained its leading position among Macao's six licensed gaming operators, with a share of slightly over 30 percent, which was followed by Sands China, the subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands, with a share of around 22 percent, according to the daily.

There were currently a total of 33 casinos, of which 20 were owned by SJM, and over 4,700 gaming tables in the tiny island city with a population of just over 540,000.

Local casino sector raked in 13.9 billion patacas in January's gross gaming revenues.
