'China Top Brand' to be phased out

The so-called "China Top Brand," a title conferred by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) on selected promising enterprises, will be gradually suspended from use, the Beijing Times reported Friday.

According to GAQSIQ's statement, the 493 "China Top Brands" announced by the China Promotion Committee for Top Brand Strategy in 2005 will expire in September this year; the 556 brands announced in 2006 will expire in September 2011, and the 856 brands released in 2007 will no longer be used by September 2012.

When the due date comes, an enterprise is no longer allowed to use the title "China Top Brand" for its products in packaging, accessories, advertisement or the product manual and other related materials.

Every year since 2001, GAQSIQ selects a batch of brands and gives them the title of "China Top Brand." Since the functions of GAQSIQ were adjusted in 2008, it is no longer in charge of brand evaluation.
