Prices of hotel rooms near centers for university examinations have jumped as much as 20 percent, hours after applications for the exams closed on Monday.

Many star-level hotels are putting on special services for students intending to take the exams on June 7 and 8, Beijing Evening News reported on Monday.

The Radgast Hotel in Beijing, for example, is offering a lake-view room for three nights at 2,599 yuan for students and their parents during the examination days.

The hotel is also offering "best students meals" to celebrate the end of high school and the success of the entrance exams.

The Friendship Hotel, a five-star hotel near the Affiliated High School of Peking University, has raised its price by 20 percent to 468 yuan a night.

Other star-level hotels with good locations started accepting reservations earlier this month, the newspaper said.

But some economy hotels are offering discounts and "noon break rooms" for the future college students.

Students and their parents will get a 12 percent discount from the Hanting Inn Hotel with their examination cards.

The hotel is also offering a room for two hours in the middle of the day, at 28 yuan.

Other hotel chains, including Home Inn and Jinjiang Inn, are also offering free wireless access, milk and morning calls.

Many parents are planning to book rooms for their children, particularly if the examination center is far from their home.

"The university entrance exam is very important for my son," a mother surnamed Wang from Chaoyang district said.

"It will not totally decide his future, but it will have a lifetime influence on him."

Wang said she would drive her son to the exam, since he does not want to stay in a hotel room.

"He said I shouldn't take the exam too seriously or it will increase the pressure he has now," Wang said.
