Sony started recalling 55,362 Vaio laptops in the Chinese mainland from June 30, China's top quality watchdog said Wednesday.

The laptops are at risk of overheating, which may lead to distortion of shapes, or even skin burns, said a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The laptops are the VPCF11- and VPCCW2-Series sold since January 2010, said the statement.

The recall is part of the company's massive recall worldwide, which involves over half a million laptops over the same concern.

Sony said that customers with laptops subject to the recall can fix the problem by downloading a program from its website.

Customers can also go to Sony' service outlets to update the software for free, or call 400-810-2228 for help.
